On Wednesday, we traveled across Costa Rica to the River Sarapiquí for a white-water rafting trip. We were picked up by the rafting company in Bonanza and had a two hour drive to the start of the expedition. Because of the size of our group, we needed three rafts with six people on two of the rafts and seven on the other, plus three raft guides. Two of the three rafts started the journey fairly uneventfully, though the third raft had some adventure at the beginning: surprisingly almost everyone safely fell out on the first rapid, which was pretty small. Filip, Maddy, Ellie, and Logan all went overboard, and Myles, the hero, helped pull everyone back onto the raft. Everyone was safe and fine, and we resumed our journey. As we continued down the river, we stopped by a waterfall for a snack break, which consisted of some tropical fruit and cookies. After this break, we continued down the river again and rafted down a new line, which was created because of the torrential downpour that flooded the river a few weeks ago. In one night, they received the amount of rain they normally receive in one month! Thus, new routes were forged. Our guides were very fun but also cautious as they guided us through these new parts of the river. On rougher parts of the river they gave us commands such as ¨lean in,¨ ¨get down,¨ and ¨forward¨, helping us maneuver through the rapids with speed and safety. On calmer parts, we got to jump out of the rafts and swim for a little while. Besides the minor mishap at the beginning of the trip, everybody conquered the river. On the trip, we saw some wildlife, such as iguanas, birds, and colorful poisonous frogs. We ended the trip at a restaurant and had a nice lunch before getting back on the bus and having a long ride back to Bonanza Norte.
See you all soon!
